Cold work tool steels are mainly used in cutting, drilling, shaping, and bending molds, as well as in the cold extrusion, rolling, and plastic industry at working temperatures not exceeding 200°C. During these processes, there are high mechanical forces and contact pressures between the tool surface and the part, so it is expected for the tool to have high wear resistance and high strength. For this reason, cold work tool steels have a matrix structure containing hard carbides and a high alloy ratio.
Cold Work Tool Steels refer to tool steels with a carbon content ranging from 0.30% to 2.50%, and contain alloying elements such as carbide-forming chromium, vanadium, molybdenum, and tungsten, as well as nickel and manganese. They are generally used in applications below 200°C.
