4340 (34CrNiMo6)
It is a chrome-nickel-molybdenum alloyed tempering steel. It is supplied in two different conditions: heat-treated (28-32 HRC) and non-heat-treated (~240 HBW). In applications where the toughness of the 4140 material is insufficient and fracture resistance is important, it should be preferred over 4140. When hardened, it displays a higher lifespan than 4140 due to its high strength and especially high toughness. It is also a material suitable for surface hardening processes. Its usage hardness is approximately 50-55 HRC.
