Tool steels produced by forging or casting methods have certain limits in terms of performance in applications. The reason for this is their carbide structure. In materials produced by conventional methods, the size of the carbides varies and they are distributed heterogeneously within the structure. This situation negatively affects the toughness of the material. To eliminate these disadvantages and provide high toughness and high wear resistance at the same time, powder metallurgy steels are used. In powder metal steels produced with metal powders, carbides are small and the internal structure is homogeneous. Moreover, it is also possible to achieve chemical compositions that are difficult to produce with conventional casting methods.
